Sustainability We believe that initiatives, which are created and owned by the local people, will allow the possibility of sustainability for those initiatives, and the community. Sustainability begins with a participatory process where everyone, including those who have been marginalized, feels included in the community and the decision-making processes that take place. Our role with those we serve is to facilitate the development of local initiatives and the decision making process to arrive at community agendas. Alistar does not do "Alistar projects" but rather facilitates local initiatives and, when asked, to partner in those initiatives in mutually agreed upon ways. Ownership of local agendas and initiatives is the key to sustainability. Developing the skills and mechanisms to locally finance and manage the community initiatives is also critical to sustainability. Back
