Consciousness Raising We believe that promoting awareness for different choices and an environment conducive to personal empowerment among those we serve, is fundamental to the development process. Having choices and the means (cultural, political, economic, etc.) to make them is the foundation of all empowerment. The process of empowering change begins with knowing and understanding options that are different from the currently available options. Raising people's consciousness, especially among those who are marginalized and without a voice or power in their society, from what is, to what can be, is the first step. We understand that empowered people will be a threat to established social relationships and power structures. Back
