About Alistar Alistar was founded in 1993 as a United States based non-profit
organization created to alleviate poverty through integrated and
sustainable community assistance programs. Consciousness Raising & Empowerment: We believe that promoting awareness for different choices and an environment conducive to personal empowerment among those we serve, is fundamental to the development process. Complete Story Sustainability through Local Initiative and Ownership: We believe that initiatives, which are created and owned by the local people, will allow the possibility of sustainability for those initiatives, and the community. Complete Story Sensitivity to Local Culture & Tradition: We believe that culture and tradition is the glue that holds communities together, and we must build on those cultural attributes and traditions that move the community in the directions that they feel are best for their future. Complete Story Community Development: We believe that real development is an internal process that opens individuals and communities to the possibility and reality of making the choices that lead them toward their aspirations, primarily using their own capacities and assets. Complete Story Environment: We believe that society and the environment are dynamically interdependent with the sustainability of each dependent on the other. Complete Story Networking, Cooperation and Partnership: We believe that the best way to do our job is to network and cooperate with many, and to selectively build partnerships and alliances with local, regional, national and international organizations in order to maximize the resources of each for the betterment of those with whom we work.
